Top 5 excuses people make –
Why I didn’t reach my health goals last year.
Hey everyone. Today I was flat chat with checking my awesome clients for their first checkup this year. Everyone said they were doing well.
But they lied…. Most of them had areas in their life that they still needed help with. BUT for some reason they have wanted to improve it for many years not just this year….
I always like to ask my patients in the New Year…. “What are your health goals for 2019?”
Some of them said, “I haven’t thought about it”, but when they really thought about it they all had a ‘sort of goal’. Some wanted to lose weight or some to get fit, some needed to eat better, some had to stress less and my newer patients said “they wanted to see the end of their back pain” once and for all this year.
So then I thought… why don’t they already have it.
Did they have a valid reason or did they have an EXCUSE… and….
How long did they have this excuse for? 1 year, 5 years or even decades…
Basically, when we look at what we have TODAY it is a product of what our focus has been in the past…
So if we want something badly the future we need to be actioning RIGHT NOW and thinking about it RIGHT NOW and actually BEING that person RIGHT NOW…. not in 1 week/1 month…
So here are my top 5 excuses I hear from my patients…
1. “I’ll start next week” – I call these people ‘GUNNA PEOPLE’
– I will just get through the first week of work and then I’m ‘gunna’ start exercise.
It’s a good chance that next week turns into next month etc. etc.2. “I didn’t have enough time” (I forgot) – Lack of doing your homework (stretch/strength exercises) Is the # 1 reason in my practice that people don’t get the results #2 I was too busy to keep my appointment.
3. “I thought it would go away” – you can imagine the EXCUSES I hear but people say. (Month, years, decades). They just either learn to live with things or just trick themselves into thinking that it’s not there. Pain means there is a problem – don’t fight it, don’t mask it, just fix it!
4. “I have ABC so I cant do XYZ” – what do I mean by this. I have a knee problem so I cant exercise (this is the one reason I’m going bald)
– just swim or do some other exercise like upper body exercises instead.. Arrrrr…..5. “I can’t afford it” – look I get it. We are not all made of money. But when you say you cant afford chiropractic care and your $250 apple air-pods fall out of your pocket or you smoke a pack a day (sorry smokers) and you’re spending $922 per month!
So if you think health care costs? How much does not working cost you? Financial, emotional, physical?
You tradies can’t work with a bad back and you don’t get paid if you’re not working
You bankers can’t concentrate on that big deal with a Headache or you’ll lose the deal.
You mums don’t want to have a short fuse with your kids
So as I finish my rant and get back to the main purpose of this blog…. Life goes backwards if you keep making excuses.
What is it that will make you successful with your health goals this year?
What are your excuses?
Lets owe it to ourselves to help our self or find someone that will help us do it.
Here 4 simple steps to reach your goals.
• Write you goals down – if you don’t cry as you do this, the goals aren’t big enough. What’s your purpose?
• Tell someone – so you’re accountable
• Make a plan – but break it down into small chunks
• Then…. Just do it (thanks Nike)
You really need to define what your priorities are.

So here’s to a great 2019… My big goal this year is to do some mission work as a chiropractor overseas so keep me accountable and stay tuned.
