Let’s chat all things back surgery and chiro adjustments.
This came up in a conversation with my staff because I had a patient recently have hip surgery and we discussed how long it would be for this person to pause their care while they recovered from surgery so that we could get back to treating the spine.
You may be surprised but having spinal surgery doesn’t give you a 100% guarantee that your back pain will go away. In fact for you to be a candidate for back surgery you have to have a certain level of disability before they would consider the risk for spinal surgery.
The truth is, it may not give you the relief you are after because you have left it too late.
What we recommend is that prior to back surgery if you want to get best results, most people who have other therapies, like physio, osteo or chiropractic. Will get better results if they do something before surgery as well.
If you just maintain your spine in the first place then you wouldn’t need to of had surgery.
Now I’m a chiropractor so I will speak on having chiropractic adjustments after your surgery,
In most cases it is absolutely safe for you to still get aligned after your surgery, of course there will be a waiting period while you heal and you will need to get clearance from your surgeon AND we won’t go anywhere near your surgical area.
But remember your spine has 24 vertebrae so we can help the other parts of the spine too.
And just remember if you fused vertebrae together then they will become stiff and they will cause other areas to work extra hard as a result… for most patients, you will get a lot of relief using chiro as a treatment and prevent further problems from happening too.
You don’t want to have a second spinal surgery!!!!
Lastly, if you have a spinal fusion on your lower back, that isn’t going to fix your neck problem, is it, so no reason why we can’t continue to treat your neck problem.
That goes for any surgery really, once you have the clearance, we recommend coming into get started again with your adjustments to help you body heal. Plus you may have been in bed for long periods of time so we want to get that body aligned properly while you are healing.
And we would never do something if it was not safe.
