Scoliosis is a sideways curve of the spine, often with some rotation of the spinal bones. On an X-ray the spine can look like an S or a C shape rather than a straight line. It ranges from mild to severe and is more commonly found in women.
Early detection is important. If you or your child may have a curve, an assessment is a sensible next step.

Dr Andrew Kaltenbach is well trained in detecting scoliosis at all ages, and we are the largest CBP practice on the Gold Coast. Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) uses measurements of your spine and posture to plan care.
Your plan may include adjustments, spinal rehabilitation including traction (decompression), and home exercises, which may include Denneroll spinal orthotics. Research on chiropractic rehabilitation for adult scoliosis has been published, and you can read an example here. See also our spinal traction and decompression page.
If your scoliosis is too serious for chiropractic care, Dr Andrew has a network of practitioners he can refer you to, whether that is for bracing or a surgical opinion. Our aim is to know when to treat and when to refer.
How scoliosis affects your health
Scoliosis: how would I know I have it?
Why I specialise in scoliosis
Results vary between people and depend on the type of curve, age and other factors. We assess you first and explain what is realistic for your situation. We do not promise outcomes.
Many people have little or no pain, while others have back pain, stiffness or tiredness. We assess your symptoms along with the curve.
If a school screening, your GP or you have noticed a curve, do not wait. An early assessment gives you clear information. See also our kids and teens page.
Yes. Call the office with any questions, or ask about a free phone consultation with Dr Andrew to see whether we are the right fit.

Chiropractic care is not suitable for everyone, and results vary from person to person. All health care carries some risk, so ask us about the benefits and risks for your situation. If you have sudden or severe symptoms, such as loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, a sudden severe headache, chest pain or new weakness, seek urgent medical care.
