New Year always gets me motivated to get active. I’ve recently started mountain biking, which I am finding is great for my physical and mental wellness.
I thought I would chat to you about how to get active again. I have a few simple but effective tips to get you started.
- Take it slow, lets take it easy and start small and work your way up to that marathon you have always wanted to do.
Start with a walk around the block if you haven’t been active in a few years.
Go walk the dog and get your body used to moving again. Do this twice a week.
2. Work your way up to 30 mins of physical activity a day.
10 minute walk warm up, 20minute work out, Don’t forget your cool down, this helps your muscles recover faster.
3. Explore work out options, cardio, weights, resistance (anything weight bearing) can reduce risks of osteoporosis.
Again start with lighter weights and work your way up. Remember your muscles need to recover.
4.Try something new, some gyms and community centres offer free or low cost classes.
Go try that water aerobics class you’ve hear about or join a team sport for fun.
5. Stretching, this is so important when it comes to starting to get active again.
Add your work out stretched into your routine stretched I have given you for your neck, lower back etc.
6. Get the family to join in. Instead of driving to school drop off, get on the bikes and make it a fun family
Next time you are in, I’d love to hear how you are getting active this year.
